School Profile

Aokautere School was initially known as Fitzherbert East School, after the politician William Fitzherbert.   In 1968, the school was renamed Aokautere School.  Aokautere is named after Te Aokautere, a great Rangitāne chief during the late 18th century.

Like many New Zealand schools, Aokautere was traditionally a rural school situated on the outskirts of Palmerston North.  Today, Aokautere School is regarded as a semi-rural school on the boundary of an ever-growing city.  The school currently has approximately 150 Year 0-6 students.

The Aokautere School community is culturally rich and diverse, allowing our children to engage with and understand a wide variety of cultural backgrounds.

Our school aims to celebrate the cultural richness of our school in a number of ways, to empower our students, and build personal and cultural mana.
